COLOMBOfreespinskeepwhatyouwinnodeposit2022, July 27 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka's navy and coast guard have seized over 27,330 kg of smuggled Tendu leaves so far in 2024, the navy said in a statement on Saturday.

The navy said they seized 1,276 kg of Tendu leaves, floating in the seas off Kalpitiya in northwestern Sri Lanka on Friday, which was the latest seizure of smuggled Tendu leaves.

The contraband was handed over to local authorities for legal action.

The navy said it conducts regular search operations and patrols in coastal areas of the country, with a view to preventing the influx of a wide range of illegal items into the country.■
