People familiar with the matter said investigators are investigating whether Tesla deceived investors and committed wire fraud or securities fraud.

One of the people added that the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is also investigating Tesla's statements to investors about driver assistance systems.

Tesla has not requested comment, and the SEC has no comment.
